What is DeFi?
DeFi stands for ‘Decentralised Finance’ and it’s an umbrella term for financial services on public blockchains (such as Ethereum). It acts as a support system (such as a bank) for Virtual Assets (VAs), so that users can borrow, earn interest, lend, buy insurance, trade derivatives, and trade assets in the Crypto world. Clear advantages of DeFi are that it is faster than conventional methods/institutions, it reduces bureaucracy, and eliminates third parties but it’s faster and doesn’t require paperwork or a third party. In line with all that is Crypto, DeFi is global, peer-to-peer (direct between two people, not routed through a centralised system), pseudonymous, and open to all.
